Ship Story:

too many to tell.
but do you remember hurricane Agness (june'72)? the Capt, XO,the Chief and I knew we were in the Devils Triangle and i was told to tell nobody. Hell of a ride.
My father asked me when i got home what i thought of the storm? i said i wasnt worried because i'd seen his 8mm movies of destroyers and minesweepers coming completely under water with the radar kicking the water only a moment later to come completely out of the the water with the screws just spinning. I said if you could do that then i felt safe on an 800' vessel.
then he replied " but those large oilers have been known to break up (didn't know about Valdez then)
".
i responded "I'm glad i didn't know that during the hurricane".

Tom,

Please relay to your wife her attaining a doctorate is (no pun), very admirable. I know you and the children are proud. How's life for you? Is real estate in your part of the country back, and banks willing to cooperate with interest rates reflecting today's overnight rates? Turning paper is very close to illegal drug margins, if not better. Thanks for your reflection of the Seattle's participation in yon kippor. (sp?) Paul Carr

As some of you may recall my father was a Navy Captain in BUPERS at the time i was on the Seattle. I was born in a Naval Hospital and grew up on Naval Bases and rode on ships at any given oppertuniny while i was growing up. My father now 83 has purchased this YP-654 that was built for the Naval Academy in 1958 to be used to train Midshipmen. very likely Lt. Leon trained on this vessel. View of the fantail my father and brother are way off at the left of the photo. we're preparing to get underway.
