Ship Story:

As I remember the Supply berthing section was located on the starboard side not far from the galley. When we were at sea, I would walk all the way up to sickbay each night and play chess with corpsman Bill Statrisano. If you oldtimers remember, we had a young man who jumped overboard off the coast of Florida on the Atlantic side. Fortunately, we found him after turning around and steaming back about 45 minutes. He was kept in sickbay and chained to a bunk. We played chess that night to the sounds of the chains rattling as he moved. He laid in his bunk in the dark. There was no radio or tv for him. He never spoke. It was real spooky being up there at night until he was taken off the ship.
