Comments:

After the Seattle I got my degree in electrical engineering and worked as an engineer for the next 15 years. I then left the engineering world to go to seminary to become a pastor and subsequently came back in the Navy as a chaplain.

I was only out of the Navy for 19 years before I came back as a chaplain and have since served:
MCRD Parris Island
USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49)
USS Germantown (LSD 42)
US Naval Academy
Naval Medical Center Portsmouth
Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL
USS George H W Bush (CVN 77)
Later this year (2020) - I will report to USS America (LHA 6)

Ship Story:

It was a long but great 4 years that fostered friendships that still last to this day. I had the opportunity to become one of the ship's first two SAR swimmers in 1985. My assignment in that was for man overboard situations. Fortunately / unfortunately I was the only one who fell overboard after I became a SAR swimmer; I fell from the boat boom while going down to work on a small boat when we were anchored off of Roosevelt Roads, PR.
