On replinshment in the Med., my job was bridge to bridge communications.  Location was main deck, near the bridge.

Once I was mid deck, waiting for the 410shot over from an aircraft carrier to begin replinshment.  Of course everyone ducked, or somehow hid waiting for the 410 shot.  I was near a dry pallet, and my life vest hung in the back, on the and I could not hide or cover.  The deckhand from the aircraft carrier noticed this and I BECAME the 410 target shot.  Missed me by two feet.....   

Another time I was at my position of bridge to bridge communications, and did not tie my life vest at the bottom.  Replinshment was completed, and bridge to bridge communications was one of the last tasks.  The bottom string of my life vest became intangled with the bridge to bridge communications cord.  The replinshment destroyer was departing, and I was in dire straits, cose to being pulled overboard.  We had a Canadian Chief Boatswain Mate on board, he was walking aft, and looking aft, did not miss a step, and continued to look aft, pulled his Boatswain mate knife, open, and cut my life vest cord, without even looking at me..........
