One night while in port we were moving 3"50 rounds from one magazine to another. One of the tops came off a container and the round hit the deck. James Manning sprang into action and grabbed the dropped round and sent it sailing over the side of the ship. Now that would have been an appropriate reaction had we been at sea but tied to the dock it caused quite a commotion. We all learned that night that Warrant Officer Kantonen could turn bright red and not say anything.
