2024 PROVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND REUNION GUEST SPEAKER

Captain Peter Kaufmann Fitzwilliam, USN  3/14/1981 – 8/9/1982

 

 

Captain Fitzwilliam entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1952 and graduated in 1956 receiving the commission of Ensign, USN.  He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Operations Research.

His first operational assignment was “B” Division Officer aboard the USS RANDOLPH (CVA-15).  Subsequent assignments included Submarine School, USS RASHER   (SSR-269), USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (SSBN-598), USS CAIMAN (SS-323), staff COMSUBDEVGRU TWO, staff COMCRUDESFLOT TEN, staff COMUSMACV and USS KASWIAHIWI (AO-146).  In December 1973 Capt. Fitzwilliam assumed command of the USS MISPILLION (AO-105) followed by command of the USS HALEAKALA (AE-25) in August 1974.

He then reported to the Center for Naval Analysis for duty.  He next attended Brookings Institute as a Federal Executive Fellow.

Capt. Fitzwilliam has been awarded the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the RVN Campaign Medal.
