Danny Ray Sliger - Crew Of 1968

Danny Ray Sliger, age 63 passed away at Texas County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Elvetta (Jones) Sliger; his grandparents, Harry and Elva Robertson and Oscar and Lola Sliger. He is survived by his uncles, Garnett Sliger and his wife Iris of Houston, Missouri, Wilford Sliger of Springfield, Missouri, an aunt Dorothy Hogan of St. Louis, Missouri and several cousins including Freda Belshe of Licking, Missouri, who was especially close to Danny and was his caregiver during his illness. Danny graduated from Licking High School in 1965. He played sports while in high school and excelled as a pitcher on the baseball team. He was good enough that he earned a try-out with the St. Louis Cardinals after high school graduation. Danny attended barber school and worked as a barber at Washington University campus for two years. He joined the US Navy in 1968 and was on the USS Seattle and departed from Norfolk, Virginia on August 27, 1970 for the Mediterranean. After completion of his 4 year tour, he became a welder. He taught welding to veterans under the VA program for several years at Waynesville, Missouri. He also worked for Heartland Metal Finishing in Salem, Missouri, welding heavy equipment until his retirement. Danny grew up in Licking with his cousins, Harry Snow and his wife Debbie of Clinton, Missouri; Larry Snow and his wife Mary of Licking, Missouri and Sandra Swallow and her husband Danny of Fordland, Missouri. Danny loved fishing on Piney River and talking about old times with family and friends. Danny also enjoyed playing golf and working on drag cars. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
